Jaguars Roar at BCL Championships

Waiting for the gun.

International High School’s Girls and Boys Cross Country team showed they have grits and heart yesterday while racing the BCL West Cross Country Championships in Golden Gate Park.  Under drizzling and cool conditions the boys varsity team toed the line for the Championship race.
Here come the Jaguars!

After a quick across the rain soaked fields of Lindley Meadow, senior captain, Adrian Franco worked his way into a top 20 position. Throughout the 5k race, Adrian moved up working between twelfth and fifteenth place, fighting for position. Ultimately, Adrian’s smooth running gait and beautiful form aided him in passing two rival runners in the finishing stretch. Adrian crossed the line in 13th place with a time of 18:37 to lead his team to a sixth place league finish with 154 points.

The Jaguar pack was in full effect throughout the race as senior Blade Varian led the charge for IHS runners 2 through 5. Blade crossed the line finishing 33rd in 20:36 with teammates Jack McElroy, Nick Xanttopolous and Henri Drake following in 35th, 36th and 37th respectively. Jack’s time: 21:10 (6:50 pace). Nick ‘s time: 21:16 (6:52) and Henri’s time: (21:16). Lucas Friedman (21:42) and Liam Fielding (24:36) rounded out the International varsity squad.

Jaguars Dig Deep at XC Championships

Getting Ready

Getting Ready

The tough-as-nails trio Krista Gon, Aline Bertrand and Nicole Wong represented International High School at the BCL League Cross Country Championships at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco on Thursday. The girls faced racing the championships without the company and support of teammates Hadley Thayer, Abbey MacPhee and Foreste Peterson, but stood ready for the challenge.  Under the damp and drizzly conditions, the girls triumphed on the rain soaked course.

Captain Krista Gon, a ninth grader, has battled shin issues most of the season. Still, she has persevered and stayed committed to her team and the race. She has been able to maintain her fitness, in spite of a reduced training regimen. With great focus, Krista held her pace, averaging 8:33 per mile over the 5k-race course. Krista had an impressive finishing kick, giving it her all on the course.

Go Krista!
