A lot of athletes say they want to be fast.  Few choose to make the sacrifices truly neccesary to reap the rewards they seek. Then there are the athletes who recognize the journey will be challenging and require heaps of discipline and focus. Steve Fung is one of those athletes.

A husband, father and financial professional, Steve finds a way to balance each of his obligations while preparing for a season replete with triathlon events.  Like many, “type A” endurance athletes, Steve doesn’t need anyone to keep him on top of his training plan. He needs his coach to hold him back at times!  It is Steve’s diligence to consistency of training that is key to his continued improvement in swimming, cycling and running.  Consistency means putting in the time day after day, taking rest when needed, but staying on task regardless of inclement weather or distraction.

This season, as Steve prepares for Ironman Coeur D’Alene, working to improve on his 11:24:41 finish at Ironman Arizona in 2009, he is completing several training race events. We congratulate Steve on his most recent event, the Moraga Treeline Triathlon, where he won the M30-39 age group and finished 5th overall. The week prior at the conclusion of a heavy week of training, Steve finished 10th M35-39 setting a new Olympic distance personal best of 2:21:56 at the inaugural Reservoir Triathlon in Morgan Hill. Steve also won the M35-39 age group at the Dam Run 10k in Orinda, CA on 1/30 clocking a 40:17 on a hilly, trail 10k. Way to go, Steve!
